Like the group Alliance Hospitality, you too can make the transfer from your traditional training programmes to Blended Learning a success. Telelangue/Worldspeaking takes care of everything!
Train more people with the same budget, while offering a more efficient language-learning solution…
That’s what Alliance Hospitality achieved by replacing their traditional training programmes with Telelangue/Worldspeaking’s Blended Learning, as Anne-Françoise Brambach, Head of Training at the hotel group, explains:
“I was sufficiently convinced by the method to try it out for myself and I am now noticing an increased level of attendance by trainees (taking lessons at a rate of 3 per week), a satisfaction level of 93% and rapid progression. In particular, our trainees enjoy working directly on the skills necessary in their professional roles through the use of real-life scenarios, news articles and specialised business vocabulary. Talking one-to-one with a teacher on the telephone helps them to make rapid progress in speaking and listening. Customising the programmes to the individual, providing flexible lesson times and making the trainees responsible for their own training are all ways that Blended Learning keeps them highly motivated.”
The multi-brand Hotel Group is responsible for 45 hotels across France, Belgium and Italy (including Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Ibis, Mercure etc….). It has a total of 1200 employees.
In January 2008, the group began a close collaboration with Telelangue/Worldspeaking. The group Alliance Hospitality was urgently looking for a training solution suited to all profiles (various occupations, a wide range of levels and different schedules) and capable of overcoming the failings of traditional training techniques (extensive organisation, poor adaptation of services offered compared to customer needs, high absenteeism). To this was added the problem of having to limit the costs of training to allow more employees to be trained.
Alliance Hospitality chose to introduce the Blended Learning solution offered by Telelangue/Worldspeaking gradually through individual training programmes of 30 and 40 hours, combining individual telephone lessons with independent learning sessions on the online program “CyberTeachers®”. This solution, selected to train 89 people in English, French as a foreign language and Spanish, successfully deals with all of the group’s challenging needs.
Challenge 1: Available for all profiles and easy to organise
Learners begin by completing an online linguistic audit, enabling the content of their training to be customised, an instructor adapted to their profile to be selected and an ideal learning rate to be prescribed. In addition, reserving telephone lessons is easy via the internet and the training programme can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.Challenge 2: Assistance during the transfer
Managing to convince hotel staff to adapt to a new form of training, involving a radical cultural shift from their traditional perception of training is a difficult task. To gain support, Anne-Françoise Brambach, Head of Training at Alliance Hospitality, is assisted by a representative from Telelangue/Worldspeaking in communicating with the managers of each hotel and setting up motivational schemes for employees from all positions within the company. These included a test project involving 6 people who could spread news of the project by word of mouth, an individual introduction to the method for each student and an agreement with the company for them to “try it out and see”; with additional hours of training offered on condition that the prescribed learning rate is respected; employees encouraged to take responsibility for their own training, etc). Beginner level students are offered the possibility of testing the blended learning solution from the beginning or else to start their training with traditional face to face lessons with a gradual shift towards blended learning as their training progresses.Challenge 3: Monitoring trainees in real time
Once the project has been adopted by a company, the progress of the trainees must be closely monitored. For this Telelangue/Worldspeaking supports the Head of Training, by constantly monitoring each trainee throughout their training (including a report after each lesson from the teacher, linguistic and technical assistance, an immediate response to attendance problems and quality feedback forms in the middle and at the end of each course). The Head of Training has access to all this information through an online reporting tool. The Re-test at the end of the course measures the knowledge acquired and the improvement of functional skills.
